Week One: While taking these pictures, I felt like this tree shows the dark and light about life. While everything is living on the tree, having the light influence how the bark and moss looks, having part of the tree in the shade, some in the light and then having both. For one of the bottom pictures, I took a picture while standing in front of the tree, catching the dark shadow of the tree, then having the light around it. Contrasting the light and dark, for that image really well. Then, the tree that has all the light on it, well, obviously the tree has full light on it, so it wouldn't have been the light and dark. OH! IDEA! - I could take a picture of a tree at night, having light on the living tree, then, having the night be dark and black, sucking in the life, (tree.) It's a work in progress!

  1. I appreciate the poetry in your concentration statement. Please just check that you are using complete sentences and include the principles of design you will use. Have this corrected by your next posting.
Your idea is intriguing. I think your strongest photo in terms of light and dark is the close up of the bark. You might want to try working in black and white to really push this idea. I like the idea of showing the shadow of the tree next to the actual tree. The contrast between the two would be even stronger if both were in black and white since one is dark on a light background and one is light on a dark background. They are a nice inversion of eachother in terms of light and dark AND in terms of one being a physical tree while one is just a shadow. For your next photos, I would also create more dynamic compositions. Most of your photos from this week are centered and straight on shots. Play with eye level, cropping and movement to create more interesting compositions. Looking forward to your next group of photos!

  2. These pictures look excellent, very clear and with good texture of the tree bark. The lighting is excellent as well, it's very bright and give the contrast to the dark mood you're trying to make.
